The Taiwan History Digital Library (THDL), developed by Professor Jieh Hsiang’s digital humanities team at National Taiwan University, is a contextual analysis system for Taiwan’s primary historical records, all of which include full-text content, metadata, and annotations. Among the materials collected is the Ming and Qing Dynasty Taiwan Government Archives, which contains 46,709 full-text documents related to Taiwan during the Ming and Qing dynasties.
These official administrative documents, primarily from the Qing era, detail the presence and governance of state power in Taiwan and its surrounding regions. This extensive archive plays a crucial role in reconstructing Taiwan’s historical landscape, documenting social changes in meticulous detail. It provides a rich and reliable source for understanding governance, economy, daily life, and culture in historical Taiwan, making it an essential reference for humanities and social science research.
